For this project we have been asked/ briefed to create a medal to be cast in bronze. However, it does not have to take the normal shape of a medal, none of the previous entries have. They can be any shape and take any form as long as what you make is not seen/ counted as a sculpture.
I have decided to continue on from what i was doing with my corporal punishment scenes. I have decided to make a medal dedicated to all those who were killed for cowardice. This medal will be for them. They will now get a medal.
The front of my medal will take the same shape as the traditional WWI medals for bravery. So this will be appropriated. On the other side it will have a portrait of someone who is being shot via corporal punishment, he will have a blindfold over his eyes. On that same side i will have the writing "Bravery and Devotion Under Fire" as this is literally what this medal was for. And in this situation these men were brave under fire, from both the enemies gun and their own countries.
Around the outside i am going to have the writing "The shot is made but as you fall hold your head high". The medal itself will be able to move round the clip which it is held in. It will represent the railway tracks which many of the soldiers travelled along to go to war. The size will be 36mm. This was the true size of the ones before so it is only right that this is the same size, as they should both be the same.
