Today i started to set up my work in my exhibition space in The Poly, Falmouth. I was really lucky with the space that i was allocated. I wanted somewhere dark and that would be quite intense/ one on one with the audience. In one of the rooms, there is a small tucked away room, big enough for a box monitor and a chair for a person to sit on. I proceeded to set up all my equipment in there. I made the decision that when you walked into the room the chair and tv would be directly in front of you, so when you are sat down watching, the exit is behind you so you cant see people coming behind you, making it very boxed in. This adds to the suspense within the room. I chose to show/ play my most recent film, Woodlands soviet montage style! I also made the decision to place a blackout blind over the opening of the room to again make it feel uncomfortable and dark. When you sit down and place on the headphones, the birds are making panicked sounds, immediately setting you on edge. Then the film continuously plays, and i believe you begin to think somethings not right, but because the film changes so quickly, its hard to begin to distinguish what is not right about the work. The whole experience is unsettling.
