This week i made a piece for the the CU exhibition. The theme/ title was "Searching for Answers". In response to this i created an almost stylised/ cut out of a tree. I stitched the outer lines of it and used paper in parts to help show colouring and thickness. I used two different cotton colours to again add a little definition. However, i wanted to keep the piece quite simple and subtle. Nevertheless, i felt there still was not enough so i then got a very pale shade of brown and painted this into sections of the tree which would naturally be darker. Once this was done i began adding a few keys to sections. I wanted these to represent keys in your life. Ones that open and close doors and answer questions to your life. The ones in the tree are out of reach, and you can only get these answers when you are patient and vigilant and they fall from the trees into you clasp. Through using different keys in this piece it presents the idea of every key is different for every person, you just need to wait until the right one falls to you, and then you shall find your answer. I am pleased with this piece, and have had positive feedback tom it, nevertheless, i feel that it is still lacking something which i cannot yet pinpoint. ...On a side note, this piece needs to be put on a wall by stretching it and hammering in in the corners, giving it a more organic and simplistic appeal.
