One of my favourite books is Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo. It's a tale of two brothers who go off to war in WW1. You are with the family from the day which they are born and so as you read you see them grow up and know them as though you are part of the family. You then stay with them when they go out to fight in Belgium. Whilst they are out fighting, one of the brothers is injured and the other decides to stay with him in no mans land, effectively disobeying orders from his commander. You are with the boys here, just waiting to see if the other is strong enough to get back to the trenches. He does, but then the other, who stayed with his injured brother, is put up for corporal punishment. You, like the brothers are thrown into turmoil. You cant believe that this would be allowed, as he was only helping/ assisting someone. The whole process of what happens to him is written very well, and sticks vividly in your mind.
I feel that the next step forward which i should take, and what feels right for me, is to make this scene. I am not sure why i have not yet done this image, as it has been placed in my mind for a VERY LONG time! ...I am renting out a DVD on people who were shot for cowardice. This will hopefully help me to conjure up an image of how to create the scene of where they were shot.
