Whilst doing my other work i have been continuing to create my medal. This has been a nice relief of the side of my work even though it takes up enough of my time! ...So as i left off i had decided that i was going to make a medal based around corporal punishment. From this i started to sketch out a few different ideas and then started marking these into a piece of plaster. Once i was happy with these, for one of the sides of the medal i poured in wax (MANY TIMES) to get back out the right shape. I then had to re build up the sides with more wax in a method like soldering.
Next, for the other side of the medal, i made a silicon mould to go over this one. This went a lot better as it settled in to all of the groves nicely. Then on top of this silicon mould i poured wax into this to gain another side of my piece. Once this was done and i had to two sides i melted them together. It was then time for me to start making the clasp bit at the top. This was agin hard as everything is in such small detail...WHY DID I CHOOSE SOMETHING THAT IS SO SMALL TO DO?!?!?! anyway, i poured the wax, cut/carved out the right shape from it and then stuck the two sides together. I have written around the outside of my medal the words "The Shot Is Made But As You Fall Hold Your Head High". I hope this comes out well around the outside as the writing is very small. We shall soon see from when we get round to casting it in bronze.
