I enjoy the clarity of when i come away from a tutorial i kind of have an idea of where my work is going. And this tutorial was right at the right moment. Lucy and I were trying to think out what it is that i appreciate so much from Crewdson's work. In the end i believe it all boils down to the fact that it is this mysterious moment caught in time, and the place that has been captured in particularly.
i need to just start making work and see what works and what doesn't. I am going to make the woodland scene that i had originally settled upon doing.
I have started making the scene, beginning with a base of papermache and then plastering over the top of this. I am now looking to put mud over the top. However, to keep soil looking wet is hard to do. I have tried doing it before. Soil and PVA glue doesn't look like mud. I have been having a few conversations with Will on what he believes would be an appropriate material to mix with the soil. So this is SLOWING me down. Another problem that i am facing is trying to make trees look real, and do i need to add leaves to them. So again, another thing SLOWING me down!
However, i have decided what i will do with the final piece. I am going to film it and every so often move/ blow something across the seen, in order to present the idea of it being a real place but there is something also not right about it.
